Providing a bright future for your child with special needs (RDSP)

My son was three years old when he was diagnosed with a condition that raised a lot of questions and concerns for my wife and I. How are we going to raise him? What’s best for him?

Having a child with special needs can be a very rewarding experience. We were amazed to discover the extent to which funding and programs were available to aid in his development, as well as by the wonderful people who ran these programs and loved our son as much as we do.

There were lots of questions, but one was particularly troubling to both of us: what would happen to him if we weren’t there to take care of him? My wife works with adults who have special needs and I work in the financial industry. Even with our experience, helping with our son’s development and securing a safe and meaningful future for him was challenging.

One of the first things we did was open a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). This account allows you to save money that can be used to help your loved ones with special needs live with increased independence as adults. The government also contributes to this account and these contributions can add up to a significant amount over a life time.

We’re confident that we’ve taken the right steps to help our son have a bright future. If you have a loved one who qualifies for an RDSP but haven’t opened one, I’d love the opportunity to meet with you. Even if you already have a plan there may be additional opportunities that could help ensure its success.

One step I can take with you is completing a Fact Find. This helps us plan for your cash flow needs, review your insurance coverage, look at both critical illness and disability insurance options, make sure you’re not over-paying for your health and dental plan and ensure that you’re in the right mortgage. After my son was diagnosed, I completed a Fact Find for my wife and I and discovered that we needed to make some simple, yet effective, changes to our financial security plan to help ensure a secure future for our son.

I’d like to meet up with you and get to know your personal situation and concerns in a safe and confidential environment. I would also love to show you how I’ve been able to save money for my clients and give them piece of mind about their family’s future.
